Art Style and Release Date!
Hi everyone, Luke here! After seeing Tinyan make the post about the art rework, I wanted to talk a bit about the basic 'rules' we set up in early development, as well as some of the art I did outside of that.
One of the first things we set out was the aspect ratio and general sizing for the game and assets. Since it's all pixel art, this was very important for consistentcy and legability within HeiBai as a whole, and the game's aspect ratio and overall asset size hasn't changed since then. Though all of the assets I made early on became placeholders to make way for Tinyans art, they did pave the way for figuring out what we wanted out of the game. It helped having a baseline, like a jumping off point for Tinyan to overhaul the game to the amazing look it has now.
On the note of art, I made our games poster for PGF! It was an amazingly fun thing for me, getting to put a less pixelated spin on our player caharacter and the world they're in. I got to play around with greyscale gradients and whether I used greys to differentiate certain things, as well as getting to be creative about hinting at the games subtle story. I heard many compliments on it, and am still very proud of how it turned out!
Before I sign off, I want to mention that the games full release will be VERY very soon! Later today as of writing this. Looking forward to you all getting to play the game in its finished state and finally getting to see Heibai come to fruition!
Thanks for reading this little waffley log on art!
